POEM // PRACTICE

Generations have sat at this desk.
Getting work done then taking a rest.

Creation happens when worlds collide.
I sit here and think about when I’d ride
On your tractor with you to the store.
Slushy in hand, wishing I had more
Time with you, so you could see
Where I am now - who I turned out to be.

Handmade, sturdy and strong.
You built this desk to last long.

I sit here and create.
This is my workspace.

Get out paper and a writing utensil and set an alarm for 5 minutes. Once your pen hits the paper, don’t lift it up until the timer goes off. Even if you end up drawing doodles instead of words, keep your pen on the paper. Answer this prompt. 

How does the work I do on a daily basis make me feel alive?Notice how your body feels. Relaxed? Tense? Tired? Anxious? Acknowledge those feelings and then take 3 deep breaths. 

Now, set another timer for 5 or 10 minutes and set your pen down. During this time, reread what you wrote and reflect on it. Did anything stand out to you? If not, do not worry. Set the practice aside. If something did come to mind and you are comfortable doing so, pray and ask God what he might have you do with this, if anything. It could simply be an opportunity to express gratitude. Perhaps it will call about change or a next step on a passion project. Who knows! 

End your time by taking three deep breaths.
