POEM

A practice for those who fold laundry; 
May the Lord be with you:

Before you begin
Close your eyes and
Take a moment to notice your breath. 
Breathe intentionally a few times. 
In, hold. 
And out, hold.
Notice any tension in your body. 
Relax your face, shoulders, neck, hands. 

As you begin, be present to your senses.

Try not to focus on getting another task done, 
but rather ask yourself about what’s in your hands.

Move slowly with intention.

What colors do you see? 
What are the smells like? 
Notice textures with your hands. 
Feel the warmth of the cloth. 
Listen to the noises that are made by your movements.
Take in the experience. 

Once the task is complete, 
or if it is just time to move on to something else before it is complete, 
take three deep breaths and pray, if you are comfortable. 
Thank God for the task and the ability to experience it.
